CSO HISTORY

CSO began in 1966 as the Activity Center for Handicapped Adults. It was organized by a group of parents of people with developmental disabilities.   In 1974, the organization incorporated as the Wasco Association for the Developmentally Disabled (WADD). During the years following incorporation, WADD experienced continued growth both in numbers of people served and the programs offered. In an effort to reflect the evolving nature of its mission, WADD changed its name in 1998 to Community Support Options. CSO now offers services throughout Kern County.

We have been supporting people with developmental disabilities for over 50 years.

Serving others is truly the most rewarding thing one can do. We highly value the time we have spent supporting those we have had the privilege to serve and we look forward to many more years of amazing experiences.

SOUTH VALLEY DEVELOPMENT

South Valley Development (SVD) is a separate nonprofit corporation aligned with CSO and governed by the same Board of Directors. SVD was incorporated in 1998 to own and manage the property used by CSO. SVD also owns nine apartment units for the exclusive use of adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

TRANSPORTATION

CSO maintains a fleet of 18 vans and buses to provide transportation services to our clients. We use the vehicles to transport clients to work, social activities, and community outings.
